The property will also be home to a new mixed-use development. Hank Aaron's statue will remain.

ATLANTA, GA — Turner Field will become a new football stadium for Georgia State University in time for its 2017 season.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced on Thursday that the city has come to terms with Georgia State and its development partners to purchase the ballpark and 67 acres of surrounding property.
Georgia State and its real estate partners, Carter and Oakwood Development, plan to retrofit Turner Field into a football stadium for the Panthers, who have been playing since its inception in 2010 in the Georgia Dome.

Turner Field's surrounding parking lots will be converted into a mixed-use community and extension of Georgia State's campus.
The school is also exploring the possibility of building a new baseball stadium on the site of the old Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, and using the old ballpark's outfield wall as part of its design. Hank Aaron's statue will remain on the site as well.
