U.S. Rep. John Lewis Hospitalized For Undisclosed Reasons

The 78-year-old Georgia congressman was reportedly "resting comfortably" in a hospital Saturday night.

ATLANTA, GA — U.S. Rep. John Lewis, the longtime civil rights icon from Georgia, was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons but is expected to be released Sunday. Lewis, 78, was under routine observation Sunday, his spokeswoman Brenda Jones told CNN.

WSB-TV had reported that Lewis was hospitalized in the Atlanta metro area after falling ill on a flight to the city.

Lewis, a Democrat, had a major role in the civil rights movement and marched with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965 in Selma, Alabama, The Associated Press reported.
