Here are the top three stories today in Atlanta:

  1. A clinical trial on vaccine boosters and coronavirus variants is now recruiting in Atlanta. Morehouse School of Medicine is one of 24 sites currently recruiting up to 200 people in the Atlanta area for a clinical trial on vaccine boosters. The trial is part of an effort to gather more data from communities of color. (GPB News)
  2. On Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration said it was levying more than $159,000 in fines against two unruly passengers, making them the largest civil penalties ever proposed by the agency. The fines are part of the agency's zero-tolerance policy that was implemented in January 2021 in response to an unprecedented spike in bad passenger behavior. The passenger facing the $77,272 fine was on a Delta Air Lines flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta on July 16, 2021, who, according to the FAA, tried to hug and kiss another passenger seated next to her. 3. Drawchange, a local nonprofit that brings art projects to unhoused children, is working to ensure unhoused students feel seen. In 2020, more than 6,000 Georgia students experiencing homelessness went missing from schools' rolls when they made the shift to virtual learning. During this time, schools lost track of those thousands of vulnerable students listed as unhoused. The Georgia Department of Education has committed more than $4 million to find and assist students experiencing homelessness in 2023, but organizations like Drawbridge aren't waiting to take action.
