Media outlets were reporting that the train hit a tractor-trailer carrying garbage.

"I am okay following the train collision," wrote Hice, whose 10th District covers Athens and counties east of Atlanta. "Grateful for the swift action by my colleagues and first responders as they work to assist the injured. Please continue to pray for everyone involved."

Both Allen and Carter said they were onboard the train with their wives, but that none of them were injured.

In a statement, Amtrak said the train came in contact with another vehicle around 11:20 a.m. and there were no reported injuries to passengers or crew members.
