Water Restored At GA Aquarium, Atlanta Hotel As Repairs Continue

Water at the Georgia Aquarium and an Atlanta hotel were temporarily shut off Thursday morning due to a leak, city officials said.

ATLANTA, GA — The Georgia Aquarium's water has been turned back on, along with a hotel and two hydrants along Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard, the Atlanta Watershed tweeted Thursday.

Crews turned the 12-inch main back on. It was turned off to repair a leak, they said. Although service has been restored, crews will return this afternoon complete repairs.

The Georgia Aquarium announced that they will close early at 2 p.m. while crews make repairs to the water pipe leak outside the building. The Aquarium said they must shut off its water supply for these repairs and will close early for the safety and comfort of guests. Tickets for Thursday afternoon will be honored for a visit in the future.

During repairs, water wasn't interrupted for customers.

"DWM was able to utilize speciality equipment provided by a specialized pipeline contractor to control the water and contain the leak," they said.

The repairs will be scheduled by the aquarium, the city said.

It has been determined that the repairs need to be made by the Aquarium as the pipe that was leaking belongs to the Aquarium although the water was leaking into the City’s Right-of-Way. The Georgia Aquarium will schedule the necessary repairs.
