YMCA of Metro Atlanta Serves Farm at Good Samaritan Health Center

One of 28 Sites for YMCA Days of Service

YMCA volunteers visited the Good Samaritan Health Center’s Urban Farm in the Bankhead neighborhood on Sept. 13 to help prepare the gardens for fall. Food grown in the Urban Garden is used for the Health Center’s FoodRX Initiative, which provides healthy food to Atlantans while also giving access and affordability to those who need it most. Food from the farm is available at a reduced price at the Good Sam Farmers Market every Saturday through SNAP, directly impacting the surrounding community.

The volunteer event was one of 28 that took place as part of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta’s Days of Service which began last year as a way to celebrate the YMCA’s 160th anniversary. The YMCA sent 2,000 volunteers to various events around the metro area September 13 and 14.

In addition to Days of Service, metro Atlanta volunteers work directly with YMCA members, mentor youth in leadership programs, teach classes, coach sports teams, help with homework and much more.
