Final forum on Augusta data center rules comes amid national debate (wrdw.com) — Augusta residents have one last chance tonight to weigh in on strict new rules for where and how data centers can be built in the city. The proposed ordinance would set buffers from homes, noise limits, and water protections, while leaving an already-approved QTS project unchanged. Local leaders say the decision will shape future development and neighborhood protections.
2. FPL Food cuts 183 Augusta jobs as plant overhaul slows production (augustachronicle.com) — FPL Food is cutting 183 jobs at its New Savannah Road beef plant in Augusta as it undertakes a year-long modernization that will temporarily slow production. The company, which has called Augusta home for 22 years, says former employees can reapply when full operations resume and emphasizes its long-term commitment to the local community and premium beef programs.
3. Concerns at VA Augusta surrounding supply chain bring review from Inspector General (wfxg.com) — Veterans who rely on VA Augusta should know the facility's supply chain problems were serious enough to trigger a federal Inspector General review, including repeated operating room closures since late 2025. Investigators found inventory and warehouse issues but say interim director James Doelling is already acting on seven recommendations, with federal officials reporting several fixes underway to protect patient care.
4. Destination Augusta touts Savannah River city as tourism destination in Brookhaven (roughdraftatlanta.com) — Destination Augusta recently promoted Augusta in Brookhaven, spotlighting the city's culture, history, and a new $275 million indoor arena at the downtown Augusta Entertainment Complex. The 10,500-seat venue, set to open next summer, will be Georgia's third-largest arena and is expected to draw 250,000 visitors annually, create 600 permanent jobs, and host the ECHL Augusta Lynx hockey team.
