John Scarboro killed in Augusta shooting, years after surviving two major criminal cases (theaugustapress.com) — A 39-year-old Augusta man was fatally shot late Friday night on Amsterdam Drive, marking Richmond County's 15th homicide this year. Deputies and the coroner have confirmed his death and scheduled an autopsy, while investigators have not yet released details on suspects, motives, or any connection to his prior criminal cases, and are asking anyone with information to contact the Sheriff's Office.
3. Augusta man accused of tying up ex-girlfriend, raping her (theaugustapress.com) — An Augusta man is being held without bond after authorities charged him with rape, aggravated sodomy, and false imprisonment involving his ex-girlfriend at a Pennsylvania Avenue home. Investigators say the August 23 incident included tying her with rope, physical assault, and prolonged restraint in a harness before his arrest and booking into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
4. Augusta University honors 9/11 victims with annual 5K (wrdw.com) — Augusta residents joined Augusta University's 10th annual 5K to honor lives lost on 9/11, with proceeds supporting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. A former New York first responder shared emotional reflections, emphasizing the importance of remembering families still living with the tragedy decades later.
5. Volleyball Drops Pair of Five-Set Matches to Close Augusta/USC Aiken Invitational (augustajags.com) — Augusta University volleyball wrapped up the Augusta/USC Aiken Invitational at home with two hard-fought five-set losses, dropping its record to 2-5. Despite standout performances from several Jaguars, Carson-Newman and Shorter both rallied late, and Augusta now heads to Clinton, Mississippi next weekend for the PBC/Gulf South Crossover against Montevallo and Alabama Huntsville.
