Auburn Elementary Principal Receives Award

A Barrow County administrator has been recognized by the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals.

Shawn Williams, principal at , was recently named one of six Georgia Distinguished Principals. 

"It is quite an honor to be recognized by my fellow principals from around the state," Williams said in an e-mail to Barrow Patch. "I am humbled to be amongst the other great educators that were also chosen to receive this award. The award is an outward example of the wonderful accomplishments of our students and teachers. If it were not for their hard work and dedication to excellence, I would not be worthy of such an award."

According to a news release from the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals, Williams’s most significant accomplishments include her school being identified as a national Music in Education Learning Lab School and Auburn Elementary serving as a teaching and learning laboratory for ArtsNOW. The school is considered a leadership school that disseminates best practices to other schools across the state and nation in the area of art integration.

Williams was also awarded with the School Bell Award for innovative instructional programs.
