Barrow County Car Dealership is Going Green
The Barrow Economic Development Council highlighted Akins Ford's efforts in a recent newsletter.

Akins Ford in Winder has jumped on the environmentally-friendly bandwagon. Β
According to the Barrow Economic Development Council, the business hasΒ committed to a full energy retrofit to save thousands of dollars each month on utility costs, predicting the conversion to energy efficiency will save as much asΒ $150,000Β annually.
The dealership has replaced more than 90 skylights with a Domed Prismatic light to use daylight harvesting and more than 1,100 fixtures and 3,000 lamps to increase light levels and efficiency. HVAC units have been replaced with higher efficient systems and refuse oil furnaces have been added to reduce their natural gas consumption. A Building Automation System with an Energy Dashboard was installed to control and monitor these new technologies in one efficient system. Critical partner-experts include Frazier Service Company (energy contractor), HI Solutions (building automation), Lighting Technologies (LED) and Sunoptics (skylights).
