City of Auburn Promotes Water Conservation

Regardless of the time of year or threat of drought, the city of Auburn Utilities Water Conservation Program strives to promote a culture of conservation within the community by:

• Protecting Auburn’s water quality
• Actively engaging its residents through school visits, neighborhood events and community projects
• Partnering with state, federal and regional water conservation organizations for effective best practices
• Educating and providing water conservation materials and methods

While a fair amount of rain has fallen over North Georgia in recent days, the Barrow County Water Authority's Level Three Drought Plan remains in full effect for all service areas, including the city of Auburn. Therefore, Auburn would like to remind its residents of the following water restrictions. Outdoor water use is as follows:

• Odd-numbered addresses may water only from midnight to 10 a.m. Sundays
• Even-numbered and unnumbered addresses may water only from midnight to 10 a.m. Saturdays

Exemptions to these restrictions are:

1. Commercial pressure washing and car washing
2. Watering of food gardens
3. Drip irrigation or soaker hose
4. Hand watering with a shut-off nozzle or hand held container
5. Hydroseeding
6. Installation and maintenance of an irrigation system
7. Irrigation of newly installed plantings for the first 30 days — Permit required
8. Plants for sale, resale or installation
9. Golf course tee boxes and greens
10. Water from private source, such as a well, if a source is on property to be watered
11. Commercial agriculture
12. Capture and reuse of cooling system condensate
13. Gray water reuse
14. Reclaimed wastewater by a designated use with an EPD permit

Violators of these watering restrictions will be subject to fines. According to the city of Auburn July newsletter, a first offense will result in a warning, but a second offense will result in a citation for court.
