Fitness Charity Event to Benefit Breast Cancer Research

Party in Pink Zumbathon Charity Event to be held at R. Harold Harrison Activity & Fitness Center on October 18, from 4-6 PM. $10 entry fee.

The R. Harold Harrison Activity Fitness Center at Bethlehem First United Methodist Church will host a Party in Pink Zumbathon to benefit Zumba Global Research Grant in for Breast Cancer Prevention in partnership with Susan G. Komen Fight for the Cure. Zumba instructors from the fitness center, along with other instructors from the community, will lead the 2 hour “dance party” as a fundraiser to help find a cure for cancer. The Zumbathon is from 4:00-6:00 PM and entry is $10. Participants are encouraged to dress in pink for the event.

The event is being coordinated by Erin Edgley, a Zumba instructor at the fitness center. Edgley had the idea to host the event at the R. Harold Harrison Activity and Fitness Center after attending and co-leading similar events in the area last year. All across the country, various churches, fitness centers, and community organizations are hosting similar events in an effort to raise $1,000,000 for the Susan G. Komen Fight for the Cure. Currently, these events have raised approximately $150,000. Susan G. Komen is an organization that began in 1982 to help put an end to breast cancer. Every 19 seconds, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. The organization has raised over $2.5 billion to find a cure for cancer. There are many events, such as Party in Pink Zumbathon, are held in October each year. October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the color for breast cancer awareness is pink.
