Local Students Compete, Place at State Conferences
Barrow County students placed in the top 10 at FBLA and HOSA conferences recently.
Several Barrow County Schools students have been recognized for their skills and knowledge in the areas of business and health care at recent club conferences.
FBLA students compete
Members of Russell Middle School's Future Business Leaders of America club recently attended a state conference in Athens, where students competed in a number of areas. RMS students placed in the top 10 in the state for the following:

- Sixth place for Local Chapter Community Service, report written by Katie Ginsberg
- Fifth place for the Local Chapter Activities Report, written by Chardai Tiahna Muckle
- Liz Crosswhite finished in sixth place in personal finance and seventh in business computations, competing against hundreds of other Georgia students

- Andrew Freeman and Andrew Massey taking second place in the computer slide show competitionΒ
- Taylor Bradberry placing ninth in public speaking
- Mckenzie Greenlee and Camerilla Bennett in fifth for computer slide show presentation
Barrow County Schools extended a special thanks to business partner Baxter Dental Group, which sponsored WBMS' FBLA students in attending the conference. Lisa Greenlee is the instructor and advisor for the club.
HOSA members compete at conference
Members of Winder-Barrow High School's HOSA, a student organization that promotes career opportunities in health care, competed at the HOSA State Leadership Conference in Athens. The competitors included Jessie Speight (epidemiology), Sarabeth Porter (extemporaneous health poster), Crystal Chukwurah (researched persuasive speaking), Srujay Patel (CPR/first aid), Chackriya Som (extemporaneous speaking), Beth Eldridge (knowledge test: human growth and development), Lisa Sanger (CPR/first aid).
Sanger and Patel placed third in CPR/first aid, while Crystal Chukwurah placed first in researched persuasive speaking.
