DOT Raises Railroad Crossing in Statham Four Inches

The Georgia Department of Transportation completed work this week to raise by four inches approaching the railroad crossing in downtown Statham.

The roadway is open for use and traffic is crossing the railroad tracks much smoother, the release said.

Georgia DOT crews still have to install permanent striping to the new roadway, as temporary striping is in place now. Permanent striping is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, weather permitting, and the railroad crossing will be closed during that time. The detour route will direct vehicles to use the Eighth Street railroad crossing then turn onto Broad Street and back onto Ga. Highway 211.

According to the news release, , vehicles still had trouble using the railroad crossing.
