Statham Stretches Early for Next Sunflower Festival 5K with New Running Club
The new, local running club and early registration are great ways to begin prepping for the September race.

Sept. 15, 2012, may feel like a million miles away to some Statham residents, but for those who take their 5Ks seriously, itβs just a quick jog around the corner.
A cherished component of the annual Sunflower Festival in Statham, this year marks the 13th annual Sunflower 5K Run, Walk and Fun Run. The race begins at 5:30 p.m. at and ends when the last runner crosses the finish line.
To make certain that everyone who participates does, in fact, cross the finish line, local resident and runner Tim Terilli has formed the Statham Running Club. This run/walk club had its first meeting March 3, and will continue to meet in front of the Statham Elementary School at 8 a.m. every Saturday morning. The club will run/walk the same route as the Statham Sunflower Festival 5K each week. All fitness levels are welcome, and participants can run or walk at their own pace. Maps of the route will be provided, and it is not required that participants complete the entire 5K course.

The Statham Running Club affords participants the opportunity to build up their endurance for the race while getting to know some of their neighbors. The club promises to be informative, supportive and, above all, safe. If you have any questions, please call Terilli at 770-601-8748 or e-mail him at statham5k@gmail.com.
Early registration is already open for the 5K, so be sure to visit the registration page on Active.com to sign up and order your event T-shirt. Click here for more information about the Statham Sunflower Festival 5K and the running club.Β
