What Do You Need to Register Your Child for Kindergarten?
There are some necessary documents you'll need to register.

School starts Wednesday, Aug. 7, but before your child can attend kindergarten, you'll need to get hime or her registered. There are some important documents you'll need to complete registration.
1. Your child's birth certificate — This is needed to verify your child's birth date and age.
2. Proof of residency — A phone or utility bill, a settlement statement, cable, lease agreement, Internet service or security system. The document must be dated within the last 30 days. Cell phone bills will not be accepted.
3. Certificate of immunization — The state requires all schools to have updated immunization forms for each student. You will need Georgia Immunization Certificate Form 3231.
4. Parent/guardian photo ID — This is used to verify the parent's or guardian's identificationand signature. If you are legal guardian, you must provide guardianship papers that can be obtained from the court. Step-parents are not able to register step-children.
5. Social security card — This is optional, but helps to expedite lunch applications and is required for the HOPE scholarship once a child reaches high school.
It is not necessary to bring your child to registration, and you can register from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school system's central office at 179 W. Athens St. in Winder. Questions? Call 770-867-4527.
