Winder-Barrow Grad Named Top Preseason Pitcher in Conference

Brianna Streetmon was named the 2011 Preseason Pitcher of the Year for the Southern Conference on Tuesday.

A graduate of has been named the 2011 Preseason Pitcher of the Year for the Southern Conference.

Brianna Streetmon, a senior at Georgia Southern University, received the recognition in the Preseason SoCon Softball Awards.

β€œBrianna was an excellent pitcher in high school,” said Leann Mitchell, who coached Streetmon during her four years at Winder-Barrow. β€œShe had speed, location and stamina. She was a dedicated player and always strived to do better in each competition.”

Mitchell calls Streetmon one of the premier pitchers in the Southern Conference.

β€œI have followed her success in college, and I am so proud of her many accomplishments,” Mitchell said. β€œI know they didn't come easy, but through her hard work, dedication and a great family behind her.” Β

Streetmon, the daughter of Jeff and Lisa Carter, earned her second consecutive pitcher of the year award last season and is looking for a third honor in 2011. She scored a league-best 19 wins on the season, including 11 in conference play while leading the conference in innings pitched with 224.0 and registering an overall ERA of 1.97, which ranked her at second in the league. Streetmon posted a 1.62 ERA in conference play.

β€œShe is a role model for our younger girls in the county to look up to and make their own dreams of being a successful collegiate player come true,” Mitchell said.

Georgia Southern will open its softball season Saturday.
