Winder Steps Up Code Enforcement

Winder Municipal Code Enforcement opened 50 new cases in June. 

This city department is tasked with enforcing codes that address public health, safety and welfare within city limits. This includes regulations and ordinances related to housing, maintenance, garbage, specific nuisances, removal of vegetation, zoning, dangerous structures and inoperable or unlicensed vehicles on public or private property.

Chief of Police Dennis Dorsey updated members of the Winder City Council on code enforcement activity during the July 3, 2012, business meeting. In addition to the new cases, code enforcement performed 26 reinspections, took action on 21 different properties and issued four citations. 

The most common violation was inoperable or unlicensed vehicles parked on properties — a total of 24 cases in the month of June. 

"As a matter of fact, we took care of five more today that we didn’t know about," Dorsey said Tuesday.

Code enforcement has started a street by street, proactive approach, Dorsey said, checking every street, noting violations and notifying the property owners.
