4 Students, Bus Driver Taken To Hospital After DeKalb Crash

A driver was accused of running a red light, hitting a school bus and causing a three-vehicle pileup in DeKalb County.

BROOKHAVEN, GA — A crash involving a DeKalb County Schools bus and two other vehicles sent four students and a driver to the hospital early Thursday, according to a media report.

Brookhaven Police told Patch the crash happened around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Clairmont Road and Clairmont Way.

The bus was traveling on Century Boulevard, attempting to cross over Clairmont Road onto Clairmont Way, when it was hit by a vehicle that ran a red light, police said.

The bus then hit another vehicle before ultimately resting on an embankment on Clairmont Road, police said.

While police said the bus driver and a student were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, school officials told WXIA-TV three additional students had to be taken to the hospital for evaluation.

There were reportedly 29 students total aboard the bus at the time of the crash.

The driver suspected of being at fault received a citation for charges of failure to obey a traffic control device, police said.

"We are grateful to first responders and law enforcement for their quick respond and care for our students and driver," DeKalb County Schools said in the WXIA-TV report.
