Earlier in the week, police had linked the shooting to a carjacking in Forest Park on July 6. The vehicle that was stolen was later used in the robbery and shooting early Sunday outside the Capital City Country Club at 53 West Brookhaven Dr.
According to police, a group of four people were waiting for an Uber ride at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday when a vehicle pulled up and a man got out, pulled a handgun and demanded their belongings.
After getting items from them, the gunman started heading back to his vehicle, but one of the robbery victims — Christian Broder, of Washington D.C. — tried to follow him. That's when the gunman fired once, striking Broder in the stomach. He then got in the passenger side of the vehicle and the driver pulled away.
According to a GoFundMe page created to help raise money for Broder's medical treatment, he was listed in critical condition and underwent life-saving surgery at an Atlanta hospital. The campaign had raised about $130,000 of a $150,000 goal on Friday afternoon.
