Why I plan to vote Jim Eyre for District 2 City Council
I truly believe that Jim Eyre is the best candidate for District 2 City Council for the City of Brookhaven.
I truly believe that Jim Eyre is the best candidate for District 2 City Council for the City of Brookhaven. With all the community work that Jim has put in over the years, it is obvious he cares deeply for his community. Jim’s leadership was instrumental in the improvements done at Ashford Park and Georgian Hills Park. This included, but was not limited to, working with DeKalb County. Please remember that our city has not left DeKalb County. We are forever tied to it. The City of Brookhaven will only be providing 5 services. DeKalb County will still be responsible for the rest of the 37 services they already provide. While I do believe the hard work going on now will allow Brookhaven to assume some of these 5 services on or near day one of cityhood, any of the 5 services that we rely on the county for now will have to be negotiated financially with DeKalb for them to provide until we are ready. Our city will have to negotiate a price to purchase our parks from DeKalb County as well. There is no other candidate running for any of the positions in our city that has the contacts and successful working relations with DeKalb County than Jim. His history of working with the county government to benefit our area in the past will be extremely useful when it comes time to negotiate these issues for our new city, not only with the county but within Brookhaven’s government as well. Additionally, his constant volunteering in so many areas proves his concern for making Brookhaven the best it can be.
There is a lot of false innuendo going on out there. Some say that a candidate running who was opposed to the city would be out to sabotage it. This city is happening. It is a matter of law and no member that is elected to Mayor or District Council can change Brookhaven from becoming a city. Please use a little common sense. For any candidate to try to torpedo the city would be to try and destroy the very place the candidate lives in. No candidate is going to purposely ruin this city, irrelevant of if they were pro or anti Brookhaven.
Many question if someone who opposed the city should even run for council and could they serve it well? Absolutely! I believe it is an absolute strength and a great qualification for a candidate to represent District 2 for the city of Brookhaven. The fact that Council Districts 2, 3, and 4 voted majority No to the city almost demands the council have at least one member who had doubts. Getting a consensus is all well and good, but to believe our diverse city will have a unanimous consensus on every issue is naive. Our District 2 representative should first and foremost represent the Citizens of District 2 and I believe that person should be Jim Eyre.
