Brookhaven Arts Alliance Announces Poster Winner for Fall Festival
Deonna Fish of North Carolina is chosen to represent this year's Brookhaven Arts Festival
After reviewing last year’s art festival submissions, Brookhaven Arts Alliance (BAA) chose the finalist poster winner to represent the 2011 art festival.
Deona Fish, an artist from North Carolina, won first prize for her 2D artwork in painting that displays energetic and colorful designs that mimic the whimsical nature of childhood nostalgia. The artwork selected by BAA will be premiered to the public in September and will be featured across all Brookhaven Arts Festival promotional gear for this coming Festival scheduled for October 15 and 16.
The Commemorative Poster winner is chosen by an independent committee selected from BAA members. The committee chooses from artwork submitted from the previous BAA festivals, specifically 2D artwork that will translate well to a poster design for the following festival as well as for promotional items like t-shirts.

In addition to the independent committee, BAA selects a jury each year that judges artwork across multiple mediums that may not be considered for the poster winner. These mediums include woodwork, jewelry, and metal and win prizes for free booths and/or discounted booths for future festivals. The jury’s opinions are weighed in as well for the poster winner.
Deona Fish’s work that will be featured at this year’s 2011 arts festival plays tribute to a world of nostalgia filled with “whim and simplicity that guides you through feelings and memories from childhood,” according to Fish’s online biography. The characters she creates “are expressions of the innocence inherent in all beings.”

Fish explains, “Much of her source of inspiration was the preschool and kindergarten children she taught, along with her three year old son. She is lucky to be a stay at home mom as well as a painter.”
Art enthusiasts may view her portfolio and buy prints online.
The commemorative poster will be launched at the opening reception of the Brookhaven Art Gallery photography exhibition on September 23 sponsored by Atlanta Celebrates Photographers. This event will take place at Town Boulevard by LA Fitness Sales Center and Moe’s Southwest Grill. Click here to view map.
