Brookhaven Canines To Cut Ribbon For New Dog Park

The new area at Brookhaven Park will be the largest off-leash dog park inside the perimeter. The grand opening is set for Saturday.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- The largest off-leash dog park inside the perimeter is set to open, and local canines are doing their part to celebrate by cutting the ribbon. The event takes place Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. at Brookhaven Park, 4158 Peachtree Road. There’s something for Fido to celebrate the occasion as well, a special bone-shaped doggy waste pick up bag dispenser.

The compromise on the location of the fence was achieved after extensive input and collaboration with the Brookhaven Park Conservancy and the Brookhaven Park Association. The city council approved funding for the project at its Aug. 14 meeting.

“The new off-leash area features a dog-friendly double-gated entry system designed to keep dogs within the designated area,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst. “This solution allows those without pets to share the park space with those eager to give their dogs of all sizes room to roam.”

The improvements include the installation of approximately 2,400 feet of fencing to apportion the nearly five acres in the 20-acre park for off-leash use. The rest of the park remains available for those who prefer to visit the park pet-free.

Since the park is home to popular events such as the Brookhaven Chili Festival, part of the fence can be easily removed so that on festival days the entire park can be utilized.
