Brookhaven, Chamblee Residents Graduate From Program


The Center for Pan Asian Community Services recently graduated 10 DeKalb teens as their 2011-2012 Comcast Digital Connectors Program class.

Four of those graduates came from Brookhaven and Chamblee: William Solano, Raul Perez, Edxon Lorenzo and Kimberly Lai, who was selected to speak on behalf of her class about the Digital Connectors program and the impact it will have on her career and future.

Designed by Comcast and One Economy, Digital Connectors is designed to teach skills in broadband technologies, computer programming and refurbishment to underserved teens.

The students spent the last nine months volunteering in the DeKalb community as technology ambassadors to help improve digital literacy.

The curriculum for Comcast Digital Connectors is divided into four areas to help students learn real world applications for broadband technology. The program focuses on leadership principles and education opportunities, digital technology skills development, connecting to the community and financial skills training and celebrating community heroes.

Students also learn how to network computer labs, connect wireless access points and create video documentaries. Additionally, they were given instruction in entrepreneurship, healthy living, career and character development and civic journalism.
