Chamblee Property Crimes Fall In 2010
Number of violent crimes remain the same since 2009.

Property crimes in Chamblee fell over the past year according to recently released crime statistics from the FBI, while the number of violent crimes remained roughly the same.
According to the 2010 Crime in the United States report, there were 677 property crimes reported in 2010, a drop of 14 percent from the year before. Property crimes include burglaries, larceny-thefts, motor-vehicle thefts and arson. There were three cases of arsons in 2009, but none in 2010.
The majority of Chamblee’s 2010 property crimes (80 percent) were larceny-thefts, defined by the FBI as “the unlawful taking, carrying, leading, or riding away of property from the possession or constructive possession of another.”

Burglaries saw a 29 percent drop in 2010, and motor vehicle thefts also declined 26 percent.
The same number of violent crimes (91) was reported in 2010 and 2009. While robberies increased 2 percent, aggravated assaults fell 7 percent.

A Patch analysis of Chamblee crime statistics over the past five years shows 2008 as having the most crimes reported during that period: 828 property crimes and 115 violent crimes.
