Dr. Jeffery Collins will be giving a lecture on Minoan archaeology in the OU Musuem of Art. The lecture is open to all students, but it will be particularly geared towards first year students and the texts read in the first year Core classes. The Minoan culture, pre-dating the ancient Greeks, was one of the most intriguing and mysterious cultures in the ancient world. Were they really that peaceful? Did they really worship snake goddesses, somersault over the backs of bulls in rituals?? Did they give Plato the foundations for the mythical Atlantis? What were they like, what happened to them? This lecture with visuals from recent investigations will explore the most recent finds and ideas.
