Familiar Territory: Marist Returns to Baseball Final Four With Sweep Over Greenbrier
Defending state champion War Eagles get solid performance on the mound in quarterfinals win, face Loganville in the next round

starting pitchers Blake Stevens and Brandon Liebrandt posted back-to-back stellar outings on the mound to lead the defending state champion War Eagles (29-3) to a sweep over Greenbrier (21-10) in the quarterfinals of the Class AAAA baseball playoffs Tuesday.
The War Eagles won Game 1, 6-1, and wrapped up the sweep with a 10-1 rout to advance to the Final Four for the third consecutive year.

Stevens struck out eight to earn the win in Game 1. Liebrandt was just as impressive, fanning 10 batters in Game 2. David Bourbonnais closed out the first game with a scoreless performance in the seventh inning. Jack Southers pitched the final inning in Game 2.
In Game 1, the War Eagles slowly pulled away from Greenbrier by scoring two in the first inning and one in the second. George Durot’s two-run triple in the fifth closed out the scoring for Marist.

Stevens, Daniel Spingola, Anthony Sherlag and Kevin Gale all homered for Marist in Game 2. Spingola’s and Gale’s were each two-run dingers, while the other two were solo shots.
Marist will host Loganville with a return trip to the state championship on the line. The best-of-3 series begins with doubleheader on Monday, May 23.
