Man Caught Breaking Into Cars: 'I Found It, I Should Take It'

Officer Alex Cushenan of the Chamblee Police Department gives us his weekly look at recent crimes in the community.

  • 3/7/13 - Burglary. 5200 Peachtree Boulevard, daytime. Victim stated she returned to her extended stay apartment to find the front door pried open, T.V., X-box, and Playstation 3 missing.
  • 3/8/13 - Auto Theft. 1400 block of N. Hill Parkway, overnight. Victim advised that his white 2010 Toyota Corolla was stolen.
  • 3/9/13 - Entering Auto, Possession of Tools. 5900 block of Peachtree Blvd, 10 pm. Officers Tran, Khoshtariya and Winfield responded to a suspicious person call. The suspect was described as a male, wearing all black clothing, with his hands wrapped in a white cloth going into cars in the dealerships' parking lot. The officers located the male as he was leaving the property. The suspect had several GPS units with chargers and mounts, I-Pods, MP3 players, womens jewelry, seven sunglasses, and almost $50 in loose change. The suspect was recorded on surveillance breaking into multiple vehicles. He told the pfficers that he works at a car detailing shop in south DeKalb. He further stated that while detailing he takes the loose change from his customers, justifying this action by saying, "I found it, I should take it.”
  • 3/10/13 - Entering Auto. 2400 block of Chamblee Tucker Road, 4:30 pm. Officer responded to an Entering Auto. He made contact with the complainant who described the suspect. Officer and the complainant located the suspect near the scene, retrieved the victims GPS unit and arrested the suspect.
  • 3/10/13 - Attempted Suicide. 3505 Peachtree Boulevard, 8 pm. Sgt. Ends and Officers Gunsby, Tran, Khoshtariya and Winfield responded to a suicide attempted call at the intersection of Peachtree Boulevard and Miller Drive. Officer Gunsby located the male laying down in the bushes. When the officers arrived they observed the male bleeding from his throat and wrists and he was holding an extended pocket knife to his own throat. The officers began to plead with the male to drop the knife and advised EMS to be in route. While the officers distracted the male with their pleas, Officer Khoshtariya grabbed the males hand and pried the knife away. The officers had to restrain the male until EMS arrived and he was transported to the hospital.
