What Do Building Permits Reveal About Google Fiber?
Several Atlanta communities will soon have the ultra-fast Internet service.

With Google Fiber building throughout several metro Atlanta neighborhoods, analysts at BuildZoom recently compiled some data regarding the fiber huts the company is currently building.
- The construction cost of “Google Fiber huts” ranges from approximately $100,000 to $475,000 per hut.
- The 12x30 foot huts, surrounded by chain-link fencing for security, typically house a 200 amp triple phase electric supply, an emergency stand-by natural gas generator, a power meter board and four in-ground vaults.
- At least one Fiber hut in Kansas City was vandalized, and its copper wiring was stolen.
To provide the service, Google uses communication nodes referred to as Google Fiber huts. The so-called huts house power and telecommunications equipment, and each one will serve approximately 20,000 nearby residents.
