'101 Gay Weddings' Take Place in Buckhead

Approximately 40 same-sex couples came to Buckhead on Sunday to participate in a mass wedding thrown by celebrity chef Art Smith in celebration of the Supreme Court’s ruling legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide.

Smith’s ‘101 Gay Weddings’ event was officiated by former Major League Baseball player Billy Bean, one of the first pros to come out publicly. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Jeff Graham of Georgia Equality spoke during the event, while David Auld offered a prayer.

Smith is bringing gay marriage to the small screen, with an upcoming special episode of the show “Top Chef” slated to feature at least one couple’s big day. The Huffington Post reports that “Top Chef” producers are searching for gay couples that would like to take part in the special wedding episode.

Smith, who is a master of Southern cooking and has served as Oprah’s personal chef, has been happily married to his husband Jesus Salgueiro since 2011.
