
ATLANTA, Ga. (February 21, 2013) – A. Montag & Associates (www.amontag.com) today announced that Robert G. Pennington has joined the firm as a managing director.
Mr. Pennington will direct marketing and business development at the 30-year-old firm, whose motto, “Investing for Generations,” is familiar to many Atlanta families. The firm has approximately $950 million under management.

Mr. Pennington was most recently the CEO and managing director of a Gainesville, Georgia, investment firm that grew from $120 million to more than $1.1 billion during his eight-year tenure there.

Prior to his work in Gainesville, Mr. Pennington served as vice president in the Division of Institutional Advancement at Emory University. While there, he oversaw annual giving, planned giving, strategic major gifts and alumni relations, reorganizing several of these functions as the university prepared for a comprehensive capital campaign.
Before transitioning to a career in investment management, Mr. Pennington was a partner at King & Spalding, one Atlanta’s oldest and most distinguished law firms, where his diverse practice included leading a team of attorneys that represented the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games in the development, construction and operation of the Olympic Village and competition venues for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games.
Mr. Pennington is a member of the Business Advisory Council at University of North Georgia’s Cottrell School of Business. He also serves on the board of directors at Connect North Georgia Inc., the board of trustees of Elachee Nature Center, and the board of visitors of Riverside Military Academy. A native of Atlanta, Mr. Pennington holds four degrees from Emory University and continues to serve the university in a variety of volunteer capacities.
