APS Makes Cuts to Orchestra, Band Classes
The school system will have 18 fewer instructors next year, meaning some elementary schools could be without band or orchestra instruction.

Some Atlanta Public Schools elementary school students will return to class in August without the benefit of orchestra or band programs at their schools.
According to Atlanta Business Chronicle, 10 band and 8 chorus teachers at APSβ elementary schools will lose their jobs by the start of the next academic year. Before the job cuts, APSβ 52 elementary schools shared 58 such instructors.
An APS spokesperson told 11 Alive News that schools could choose to allocate some of their funds towards their band or orchestra programs, or some schools could share instructors. All APS elementary school students will still receive general music instruction, according to a statement cited by Atlanta Business Chronicle.
