Athens Police: Human Remains Found in Burned Car Was Atlanta Woman
Darla Gibbons, 23, was identified by the GBI Crime Lab.

The human remains found in a burned-out car earlier this week in Athens has been identified as an Atlanta woman.
Athens-Clarke County Police said the GBI Crime Lab identified the remains as Darla Gibbons, 23, of Atlanta. She was the owner of the car found Wednesday morning off Winterville Road in Athens.

Investigators believe Gibbons may have travelled to the Athens area to visit relatives. They believe her death was not a random act and have classified it as a homicide.
Police said in a news release:

“Anyone who may have seen or spoken with Darla Gibbons in Athens during the last few days is asked to contact the ACCPD so that we may speak with them directly. If you have seen something, please share what you know with us. The police will continue to stubbornly follow all creditable leads in order to uncover those responsible for this senseless offense.”
