Atlanta Man Convicted of Killing Disabled Veteran

Two other defendants are awaiting trial for the same murder, prosecutors said.

An Atlanta man has been found guilty of murder for his role in the 2012 killing of a disabled veteran in a robbery gone wrong, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

Andre Juvell Byrd, 25, was convicted of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery for the July 26, 2012 killing of David McReynolds. He was sentenced to life in prison plus five years.

Byrd and two accomplices targeted McReynolds after they a large amount of cash in his hands while at a convenience store, the DA’s Office said. Once outside the store, the three confronted McReynolds and demanded the cash and belongings. A struggle ensued, and shots rang out. The robbers fled; McReynolds was found dead nearby, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators identified Byrd through the store’s surveillance camera footage and also through a photo lineup, prosecutors said.

Two alleged accomplices, Dedrick Hale and Quinterious Hogans, have been indicted and are awaiting trial.
