According to police, Leon Robinson walked into the Georgia’s own Credit Union at Peachtree Street and John Wesley Dobbs Avenue at 8:47 a.m. and threw a rock at a bank teller. He then handed the teller a note which stated he had a gun and wanted money. Robinson signed the note, police said.

After Robinson left the bank, police said a security guard approached a nearby Atlanta police officer and pointed out Robinson, who was walking down the street, and said he had just robbed the bank.

Police said that the officer approached and challenged Robinson at Peachtree Street and Peachtree Center Avenue. Robinson appeared to reach into his waistband, possibly reaching for a gun. At this point, the officer fired a single shot at Robinson, which struck a bag he was holding and smashed into a window of The Imperial Hotel.

Another Atlanta police officer responded to the shot and used a taser on Robinson, and the two officers were able to place him under arrest. He was treated briefly at Grady Memorial Hospital then taken into custody, police said. He has been charged with armed robbery.

Nobody was injured during the incident, police said.
