📰 Here are the top stories in Buckhead today:

  1. Here's something you don't hear every day: Someone jumped into a police officer's car at 2841 Greenbriar Parkway Southwest and took off. The officer was making a traffic stop and was outside the vehicle. Once again, the Atlanta Police Department's Air Unit came to the rescue and located the patrol car . . . but not before the joyrider had lost control at McDonough Boulevard and Hank Aaron Drive Southwest, and "the vehicle overturned and came to a rest partially on the nearby train tracks." The thief was lucky that State Patrol officers got them out "seconds before an oncoming train struck the patrol car." (Atlanta Police Department)
  2. Buckhead's Bell Street Burritos founder isn't too fond of delivery services. Far too often, customers complain that parts of orders are missing when they show up at their door. He attributes this to a lack of accountability by delivery services for the "accuracy of the order or the length of time it takes to deliver it." On Saturday morning, we learned that Georgia's Senate Bill 34 is looking to bridge this gap. (11 Alive)
  3. Krispy Kreme and Shaquille O'Neal aren't giving up on their 295 Ponce De Leon Avenue Northeast location. Sure, the original place burned twice (at least once by arson). But the company and its partner are investing $1.4 million to build a 4,000-square-foot shop. Best of all, we might be seeing that "Hot" light shine as early as in the summer of this year. (What Now Atlanta)
  4. Would you like your home to be certified as a wildlife sanctuary by the Georgia Audubon Society? Recent news outlined that even the state bird is considered "highly vulnerable." Property owners can step in, and commit to planting native plants in their yards with an eye on giving insects, which are necessary to feed the birds, great living conditions. Experts suggest "trees like oaks, willows and poplars, along with flowering perennials like goldenrods, sunflowers and asters." The Georgia Native Plant Society is hosting a "Planting with Purpose" online event on February 18 and 19 that you can sign up for. (Saporta Report)
