According to BuckheadView, three headstones at Mt. Olive Cemetery have been toppled in recent months; the historic African-American cemetery lies in front of Frankie Allen Park, the former site of the African-American community of Macedonia Park.
There are only seven headstones left in the cemetery, the Buckhead Heritage Society told BuckheadView. The preservation organization is looking for funds to clean and repair the three damaged headstones and clean the monuments which remain on the property.

Buckhead Heritage Society President Wright Mitchell successfully defended the cemetery against a developer wishing to disinter the people buried there back in 2010, BuckheadView says; Mitchell was providing pro bono representation to a man whose descendants are buried in the cemetery.
Mitchell and the society have been championing the cemetery’s cause since 2009, and began hosting volunteer cleanup days on the property after the 2010 case.
