Why at Friendship?

What better place to get together with your friends than at a place called Friendship?

Besides that - this might be your last chance to see the oldest black Baptist Church in Atlanta, if our Governor and his henchmen have their way, and tear the church and the Georgia Dome down to clear a path for a proposed new publicly subsidized Falcons Stadium.  But let’s hope and pray that Divine Intervention supersedes these destructive plans, and we’ll celebrate our mothers and our history and our Friendship in Atlanta with songs and praise and appreciation for the generations before us - and for the generations to come.

What’s Extra Special about Friendship on Mother’s Day?

Historic Friendship Baptist Church is known as the “Mother Church” of nine other major Baptist Congregations in Atlanta.

Friendship was also the Mother Church for our city’s first African-American Mayor, the late Maynard Jackson, who came to Atlanta as a child when his father was called to be pastor of the church.

Friendship was also the first Atlanta campus for many of the city’s historical black colleges and universities.Spelman, Morehouse, and Atlanta University all grew up with the love and nurturing of the “Mother Church” of Friendship.
