Civic Center Redevelopment RFPs Due Next Month

Proposals are due by Dec. 10, 2014; Atlanta residents have suggested the site be transformed into a mixed-use development.

The City of Atlanta has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for redevelopment of the Atlanta Civic Center site through its economic development authority, Invest Atlanta.

According to the RFP, the main goal of the city is to sell the site and allow it to become ”an active center for job-generating, tax-paying activity.”

There are some restrictions for any developer seeking to get to work on the site; Southface’s offices and demonstration facility are off-limits, as is are sewer relief trunks managed by the Department of Watershed Management. The department has proposed the construction of an underground vault for these trunks, and any developers would have to respect the work being done to build the vault. Future construction can be planned above the vault, and any developer who completes the vault to the department’s specifications is eligible for reimbursement.

Meeting attendees suggested that the site be redeveloped into a mixed-use development, combining office, residential, retail, and restaurant space. Residents added that walkability at the new site was a large priority.
