What a heavy subject. The future is bright if we allow it to be. Do we still believe that? Is it just a cliché? I really don’t know. I’d like to think that I’m not the only one that just does my best each day and hopes it was enough when I go to bed at night. Do you do this? Do you have a plan? Like most of my subjects. There are more questions than answers. Shakespeare believed he had the answer.
“It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves” – William Shakespeare

But was he right? Do we hold our own destiny in our hands? Maybe I agree with him in part. Maybe we control the trajectory, but not the destination. We can set our course. But we will encounter others along the way and will be required to react to their actions. This, we can only control us, not them. So, their actions affect our destination. Does that make sense? We are as much reactionaries and people of action. I find myself reacting to what life throws me more often than not. So, in theory. I do not hold my entire future in my hands. Steve Jobs was not only Mr Apple. He was known as somewhat of a philosopher as well.
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life” – Steve Jobs

Mr Jobs hit the nail on the head, in my opinion. I’ve heard it said that we should wake up every morning and do the next right thing. Maybe that will bring on the best life we can have. I have always believed we must decide who we are before every venture. I know in business, if you wait until something goes wrong. You find yourself reacting instead of repairing. That can be dangerous and can change who we are in that moment. President Kennedy got it right it seems.
“For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future” - John F. Kennedy
How do we become ready for what the future holds? As usual. I have questions and no answers. Unless of course we develop in us, integrity, compassion, and honesty. These three things will shape how we react to what comes our way. Since we know we will be hit with some pretty tough circumstances from time to time. In my opinion. We can become the type of person that when put under pressure, turns into a diamond. And settle into the fact that pressure will come. More often than we want, more intense than we feel we can endure, and always at the wrong time. Since I am not qualified to give advice. I will leave it to Mr Wordsworth (cool name).
“Life is divided into three terms – that which was, which is, and which will be. Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present, to live better in the future” – William Wordsworth
Have the best future you possibly can by being the best person you possibly can.
