Dinner and book signing with Vertamae Smart-Grosvenor, author of Vibration Cooking or, the Travel Notes of Geechee Girl.
Vibration Cooking was first published in 1970, not long after the term “soul food” gained common use. While critics were quick to categorize her as a proponent of soul food, Smart-Grosvenor wanted to keep the discussion of her cookbook/memoir focused on its message of food as a source of pride and validation of black womanhood and black “consciousness raising.”
Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with a reception and book signing. A multiple course dinner with pairings will be seated at 7:00 p.m. Cost per person is TBA. Reservations required. A complimentary copy of Vibration Cooking will be given to each guest. Additional copies will be available for purchase.
