Firefighter Injured in Buckhead Should Go Home Today

Spurgeon Putnam fell 20 feet while performing a dangerous ventilation operation at an apartment complex last week.

An Atlanta firefighter who was injured in a fall while on the scene of a two-alarm apartment fire in Buckhead last week is expected to be released from the hospital Monday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Firefighter Spurgeon Putnam was on the roof of The Victoria apartments at 3518 Roswell Rd. on Thursday morning performing a dangerous ventilation operation when he fell approximately 20 feet. Another firefighter on the roof, Josh Martinson, suffered buns to his shoulders during the operation.

Both Putnam and Martinson were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment. Martinson was released Thursday, and Putnam should be released today.

Both men are members of Fire Station 21. Fire Station 21’s crews were allowed to leave the scene of the fire early to be with their injured comrades.
