"Hunger Games: Catching Fire" Is Georgia's Highest Grossing Movie

The Georgia-filmed blockbuster earned $425 million at box offices across the United States.

Georgia's entertainment and movie industry made national headlines only a few weeks ago, when Hollywood studio execs threatened to pull the plug on their Peach State productions if Gov. Nathan Deal signed the controversial religious liberty bill.

In 2015, films and TV shows made in Georgia generated an economic impact of more than $6 billion. The 248 film and television productions shot in Georgia represent $1.7 billion in spending in the state.

So have you ever wondered which movie filmed in Georgia was the most successful? Using data from Gracenote, PrettyFamous discovered which movies brought in the highest U.S. box office revenue (not adjusted for inflation). It then used IMDb to find out which states (including Washington, D.C.) these movies were filmed in. In order to be counted in the state, each of these films had to have at least one scene (which could take up any amount of screen time) filmed in that particular state.

Georgia's highest-grossing film was 2013's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," grossing $425 million in the United States.
