March 2014 "Georgia Change Maker" Accolade: Mr. Azhar Syed

State of  Georgia, Congressman Hank Johnson Celebrates Pakistan Resolution Day 2014 Hosted by Azhar & Yasmeen Syed at Golf Club of Georgia. 

Atlanta, Georgia — On Sunday, March 23th, Congressman Hank Johnson (D-GA), Honorable State Representative Pedro Marin of Gwinnett County, and members of the Pakistani-American Community, joined for a luncheon to celebrate Pakistan Resolution Day. The event was held in honor of the 74th anniversary of Pakistan Resolution Day.

The group discussed the strong relationship between the United States and Pakistan, as well as the growing and vibrant Pakistani-American population in the United States. “The links that bond the U.S. and Pakistan are stronger than ever, and I am honored to join members of the Pakistani Community, and our esteemed host Mr. Azhar Syed, for an important discussion on how we can continue to strengthen our alliance,” said Congressman Johnson. “Gwinnett County truly is the heart of the Pakistani-American community in Georgia and around the country. As relations between our two countries continue to grow, so does the role played by the Pakistani-Americans in Georgia,” State Representative Pedro Marin stated.

“I am pleased to join Congressman Hank Johnson and the Pakistan-American community in a celebration of Pakistan Resolution Day and the strong partnership between our two nations and people,” Mr. Azhar Syed later declared. “The United States and the State of Georgia is a very important partner to Pakistan and we can meet global challenges together.”

 The event was hosted by Azhar & Yasmeen Syed. Earlier this month, Mr. Syed was awarded the “Outstanding Georgia Citizen” certificate, from Georgia Secretary of State, for his outstanding leadership. Recently, Mr. Syed was invited to meet the Governor of Georgia, Nathan Deal, and was also honored by the Georgia House of Representative for commemorating Pakistani-American Day in Georgia.

Commenting on the celebrations, Congressman Johnson stated, “I was honored to celebrate Pakistan Resolution Day with Mr. Azhar Syed and other Pakistani-American leaders in Georgia." 

The Congressman then closed the ceremony by adding, “Congratulations to Mr. Syed for his leadership, achievements, and commitment to diversity, and congratulations to Pakistan on Pakistan Resolution Day.”
