Mother Shot at Lenox Square Wednesday Night

Atlanta, GA -- A mother of a 2-year-old was shot at Lenox Square Wednesday night in a robbery, and remains in the hospital Thursday while police search for two suspects.

The incident happened when the woman, 23, was leaving the mall with her boyfriend and 2-year-old when police say they noticed they were being followed.

Police told Channel 2 Action News that the couple and the child got in their car, when one of the suspects got into the back seat and pulled a gun. The other suspect stayed outside the car while the gunman demanded money and jewelry that the couple had just bought at a mall jewelry store.

But the couple said they didn't buy anything. The gunman then shot the woman in the abdomen and fled.

The woman attempted to drive herself to a local hospital, but only made it as far as Benihana's, when emergency personnel arrived on the scene and rendered assistance.

Police have the incident on surveillance footage.
