According to CBS Atlanta, Felicia Christian claims that police treater her daughter Alexia like a ”hardened criminal” after she was detained in reference to a stolen truck she was allegedly in. Police say that Christian was able to steal a handgun from the stolen truck and keep it on her as she was placed into the back of the police car without first undergoing a search.

Once inside, police say Christian got out of her handcuffs and fired at the officers when they asked her what her name was. Once Christian started firing, police claim the officers bailed out of the vehicle and fired ten shots at Christian, killing her.

Christian had been arrested seven times in the past and had reportedly escaped from handcuffs once before, but her mother told CBS Atlanta that simply having a record shouldn’t be a death sentence; Alexia should be in jail and not the morgue, Felicia told the station.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
