Single Again “From Attraction To Admiration”

By: Kenneth Stepp

To admire someone is the greatest compliment. We all have people we admire. But when a love interest finds it’s way to that category. That, is amazing. What if you were with someone you admire? I can’t think of a single thing better as a foundation for a lasting relationship. To admire someone you didn’t give birth to, or they to you. Wow! I’ve seen my share of couples and friends that get along well, enjoy one another’s company, etc. But very few times have I seen admiration in the eye of one of them.

Admiration has 3 main definitions.

1. Respect and warm approval.

2. Something regarded as impressive or worthy of respect.

3. Pleasurable contemplation.

Who wouldn’t want to see that in a pair of eyes looking at them? I would. What an honor that would be. I would say that is a prize most can only hope for. Few gain it. Some don’t understand it. Respect is a natural byproduct. I can’t imagine how a relationship would be if they admired one another. Would this be a foundation for soul mates in a romantic relationship? I can think of no better one.

“There is an innocence in admiration; it is found in those to whom it has never yet occurred that they, too, might be admired some day” – Friedrich Nietzsche

Mentioning those that do not understand admiration, leaves me with the job of proving it. I believe the quote below does just that.

“If you want to sacrifice the admiration of many men for the criticism of one, go ahead, get married” – Katharine Hepburn

I believe Ms Hepburn missed so much with that statement. She is confused about the depth that admiration takes a person to. It causes us to go very deep.  Soul deep. I have discovered I admire others for various reasons. They are in and out of my life. Or have been in the past. Weaving new chapters about them in my mind. My living mosaic in living color. Amazing.

Today is yet another incredible day in my already, incredible life. Why? Because I get to know someone new. I have a place I visit a few times a week. Top Dawg Tavern in Bethlehem Georgia. Food’s great, live music at night, service is the best, and the staff is better than any other. I love talking to my servers. Getting to know them. Today, Briana is helping me out. She’s a friendly, competent, lovely girl. She has a beautiful two year old daughter. I know because she showed me her picture. Dad sounds great too. They live near here and this little girl is the apple of her eye, and the very core of her existence. Hard not to admire that.  I call this place my office. I guess it’s the closest thing I have. My cubicle is huge and entertaining. I am blessed.

If you want to live the dream. Live it with people who have mutual admiration for you. Things get exciting that way. Exciting meaning, lower your guard and enjoy all there is in your orbit. Admiration can get you there. Is there a danger that someone admires you and you blow it. Not if it’s real admiration. Like love, it endures. There is always more room in a life for quality people. Stand in the long line and expect more out of life. If someone admires you. Ask them why. Then enjoy the conversation you have waited for. Accept their words. Embrace the way they see you. Love being loved. You deserve it.
