Transgender Bathroom Controversy at Lenox Square

A woman says she tried to use the mall's family restroom but was denied entry by security guards.

ATLANTA, GA β€” A transgender woman says she was denied entrance to the family restroom at Lenox Square.

Courtney Davis told CBS46 that security guards told her the restroom was occupied, then started making fun of her.

Davis said she wanted to use the family restroom instead of the women’s facility to avoid any problems.

"Lenox Square is committed to providing a welcoming environment to all shoppers," said Les Morris, spokesman for Lenox Square. "On Ms. Davis’ visit in mid-July, the family restroom was occupied when she initially attempted entry. Lenox Square would never deny any guest entry into a restroom, and our security officer explained that she was welcome to use the restroom as soon as it became available."

Following a Facebook message Davis subsequently sent to the mall, Lenox Square’s security director contacted her to discuss her concerns. After their conversation, it was management’s understanding that Ms. Davis was satisfied with the outcome and the issue was put to rest.

"According to our records, which include independent accounts by several members of the security team, no profanity or derogatory language was used by the security officer in his interaction with Ms. Davis," Morris said. "Disrespectful interactions with our shoppers are simply not tolerated at Lenox Square."
