2 Ejected From Motorcycle During Police Chase In Bartow County

The motorcycle crashed into a patrol vehicle on the southbound entrance ramp of Interstate 75 in Emerson.

EMERSON, GA -- Two people were ejected from a motorcycle in a collision during a police chase Monday afternoon in Emerson. At around 4:35 p.m. Sept. 4, a Suzuki motorcycle was fleeing a marked Emerson patrol vehicle on the southbound entrance ramp of Interstate 75 near mile marker 283 while the cruiser was traveling northbound on the ramp.

The motorcycle was being operated by 31-year-old Shannon Reed of Jasper, "who was not licensed to be operating" the vehicle, the Georgia State Patrol told Patch.

The patrol car, which was utilizing its emergency equipment at the time of the chase, came to a stop on the ramp and was hit on its left front by the motorcycle, GSP added (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app).

After the collision, the motorcycle overturned onto its right side and hit a guardrail face support with its undercarriage.

Reed and the passenger, 25-year-old Shailyn Reynolds of Jasper, were both injured and transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. The Emerson cop involved in the pursuit, 42-year-old Billy Fuller, was not injured, GSP added.

Reed has been charged with removing or affixing license plate with intent to conceal or misrepresent; improper tag display; no proof of insurance, fleeing or attempting to elude police officer; reckless driving; driving under the influence; serious injury by vehicle; failure to stop at stop sign; speeding in excess of maximum limits; possession of controlled substances; and possession of drug-related objects.

The collision remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. Online records show both Reynolds and Reed have yet to be booked into the Bartow County Jail.
