5 People Injured When Car Veers Off I-75, Crashes Into Trees

The accident was reported Tuesday evening along I-75 between the Cass-White Road and Highway 140 interchanges in Bartow County.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Five people were injured Tuesday evening when a vehicle left the roadway and ran into several trees before coming to a rest along Interstate 75 in Bartow County.

Crews with Bartow County EMS responded to the incident July 18 on the northbound side near mile marker 300, which is situated between the Cass-White Road and S.R. 140/Adairsville interchanges north of Cartersville.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a 2017 Ford Escape was traveling north of Interstate 75 in the left lane around 6:30 p.m. when the SUV veered off the shoulder.

"The driver jerked the wheel, which caused her to lose control of the vehicle," the state agency said.

The vehicle returned back onto the road, crossed over all three lanes before exiting off the shoulder on the other side. The SUV hit an embankment with its front and continued traveling north down the embankment before colliding with a tree.

That impact caused the back of the Escape to rotate before coming to an "uncontrolled rest facing south," GSP added.

The driver, 45-year-old Marla Hoover, age 45 of West Harrison, Indiana, and passenger Shari Cameron, 56, of Brookline, Indiana, were injured and transported to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.

Three additional passengers from West Harrison, Indiana, 18-year-old Hope Hoover, 2-year-old Aria Hoover and 19-year-old Hunter Jivoin, were also injured and transported to Cartesrville Medical Center for treatment.
